This activity will illustrate students' true comprehension by assessing their ability to both “expand” the text of the Chumash to include details that are only alluded to in the text, and to “contract” the storyline
even further by summarizing the passage or isolating the main ideas. It places an emphasis on the importance of students being able to re-state what they have learned both in detail and as a general overview. It also requires students to create a new product communicating what they have learned creating a news bulletin or newspaper.
